Turning 65 in Pasco County?
Here’s What You Need to Know About Medicare

Turning 65 is a big milestone—maybe you’re thinking about retirement, spending more time with family, or just enjoying a slower pace of life here in Florida. But somewhere along the way, Medicare enters the conversation… and suddenly things can feel a little more complicated.

If you’re in Holiday, New Port Richey, Trinity, Tarpon Springs, or the surrounding Pasco County area, the good news is you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At Insurance Benefit Navigators, we meet with individuals every week who are turning 65 and simply want clear, straightforward guidance on what to do next.

When Should You Enroll in Medicare?

Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65. Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) begins:

  • 3 months before your 65th birthday
  • The month of your birthday
  • 3 months after

That gives you a 7-month window to enroll.

Missing this window could result in late enrollment penalties or delays in coverage, so timing is important.

We often hear from clients in Holiday and New Port Richey who didn’t realize how early they needed to start planning—starting a few months ahead can make the process much smoother.

Understanding Your Medicare Options

Medicare can feel overwhelming at first, but it’s helpful to break it down:

  • Part A (Hospital Insurance) – Covers inpatient care
  • Part B (Medical Insurance) – Covers doctor visits and outpatient services
  • Part C (Medicare Advantage) – An alternative to Original Medicare that may include additional benefits
  • Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage) – Helps cover medications

Many individuals in Trinity, Tarpon Springs, and throughout Pasco County choose to sit down with a licensed agent to review options based on their doctors, prescriptions, and budget.

Do You Need to Enroll if You’re Still Working?

This is one of the most common questions we hear.

If you’re still working and have employer group coverage, your decision may depend on:

  • The size of your employer
  • Whether your coverage is considered creditable
  • Your future retirement timeline

Every situation is different, which is why it’s helpful to review your options ahead of time rather than waiting until the last minute.

Why Local Guidance Matters

Medicare plans can vary by location. Working with someone who understands the Holiday, New Port Richey, Trinity, and Tarpon Springs communities can make a big difference.

We understand:

  • Local provider networks
  • Plan availability in Pasco County
  • What matters most to our neighbors and clients
