Insurance Myths You Shouldn’t Pack for Summer

We hear these myths all the time — let’s clear them up:

Myth #1: “I missed Open Enrollment, so I’m out of luck.”

Fact: If you’ve recently lost coverage, moved, had a baby, or had an income change, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Don’t wait — deadlines apply!

Myth #2: “Medicare takes care of everything when I turn 65.”

Fact: Original Medicare covers hospital and doctor visits — but not prescriptions, dental, or vision. We help you compare Medicare Advantage, Part D, and Supplement Plans to ensure complete coverage.

Myth #3: “My Medicare plan works the same when I travel.”

Fact: Not all plans travel well — and Original Medicare doesn’t cover emergency care abroad. Whether you’re taking a Caribbean cruise, visiting family up north, or exploring Europe, we can help you stay protected beyond your regular network.

Myth #4: “I’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare when I turn 65.”

Fact: You’re only automatically enrolled if you’re already receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits. Otherwise, you’ll need to sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period — a 7-month window surrounding your 65th birthday.
Missing that window could lead to penalties or coverage gaps — but don’t worry, we can walk you through it.

Myth #5: “I can wait until I need coverage to enroll in Medicare.”

Fact: Waiting can cost you — literally. Delaying Medicare enrollment without qualifying coverage may lead to permanent late penalties on Part B and Part D. Even if you’re healthy now, it pays to plan ahead.

Let us help you explore your options and avoid unnecessary costs.
